It was a busy couple of days for the three Victorian-based Confucius Institute’s!
Thursday 17th September saw the Global CI Day Celebration event at Storey Hall (RMIT), and the following day was the Chinese Cultural Gala Performance, which saw artists from the Art Troupe of HUST (Huazhong University of Science and Technology) deliver an incredible Far East Yangtze River performance.
The performance included traditional Chinese dance and instrumental performances alongside the Chinese folk music, which received considerable acclaim from the audience. The structure of the performance consisted of a series of sessions showcasing Chinese culture which aimed at developing the audience’s understanding of China: Part one and two of the performance were called ‘A long history’ and ‘Water benefits everything’ respectively, and both reflected the regional diversity of China and historical changes to Chinese culture that has occurred over time. Part three was called ‘The Ocean of Dreams’ that then engaged the audience with a more modern version of Chinese culture.
All three elements of Chinese culture came together and provided a wonderful combination of both western and eastern culture, which the audience appeared to love and were thoroughly enthaustic about it!
