Around the globe, the Confucius Institute recently celebrated its 11th anniversary.
The three Victorian-based Confucius Institute’s at La Trobe University, University of Melbourne and RMIT jointly hosted the celebration on Thursday 17th September at the Grand Buffet Hall in Parkville.
This celebration commends the 11th year that the Confucius Institute have been operating within Australia. While hundreds of students and members of the general public participated in the celebration event, many distinguished guests also attended, such as the Educational Counsellor Mr. Zhao Jiang and Chinese Education Consul Mr. Yang Zhiyong.
The event saw cultural activities involving paper lanterns, Chinese calligraphy and photography of traditional Chinese outfits. Many brilliant performances also took place such as traditional Chinese dance and folk music, alongside an exciting Chinese martial art show. Cultural activities also encouraged event goers to actively participate and upon completion, they received a stamp which placed them into a lucky draw competition.
Within recent years, the Confucius Institute at La Trobe University has seen a fast development in the interest to learn the Chinese language and to better understand Chinese culture. An event such as this one provided a great opportunity for the public, especially high school students, to learn about Confucius Institute at La Trobe University.
